Top 4 Things I’m Excited about for Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend

One week from today, I will be participating in my second on-site runDisney event, the Disneyland Half Marathon. Colton will be running with me for his first runDisney event too! We are both excited, mainly because we get to visit Disneyland again. So in preparation for the Disneyland Half marathon, here are the Top 4 Things I’m Excited about for Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend.

4. Medals

This is one of the top reasons for my participation in the runDisney events and I’ll be completely honest, obtaining the Coast to Coast Challenge medal is why I signed up for the Disneyland Half. If you’re unaware, if you complete any two Disney half or full marathons within the same calendar year, you get an additional medal after your second race. I hope to one day complete the Castle to Chateau Challenge by running a race at Disneyland Paris.

Disney medals are a great size, Disney themed, and gorgeous! After running the Princess Half in February, we immediately headed home which meant I was unable to wear my three medals to the parks. For this run, we will be in Disneyland until the day after the race, so you can bet I’ll be showing off both my Disneyland Half medal and my Coast to Coast Challenge medal in Disneyland and California Adventure.

 3. The Race Experience

The Princess Half that I participated in earlier this year was the funnest race I have ever participated in. I’ve ran a few small races around our hometown, so it was my first half marathon. I had also read different blog posts about the race, but it surpassed all of my expectations. You can see more of my thoughts about Princess Race Weekend in my reviews, here and here.

I expect the Disneyland Half will be different, but I’m looking forward to a lot of Disney magic. Characters are a big part of the race and I am hoping there are some rare characters brought out for the race. Also, it’s not Disney, but I cannot wait to run through Angel Stadium. As part of the race, I’m most looking forward to meeting other racers and running my second half marathon with Colton by my side.

2. Theme

Toy Story is one of our favorite films, so when Disney released this year’s theme for the Disneyland half, I immediately started brainstorming outfit ideas for race day. For our first Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, we dressed up as Woody and Jessie and it was so much fun.

For our race day outfits, I went back and forth on a few ideas, but finally settled on Bo Peep and Woody. Both Colton and I are keeping our outfits simple, because we don’t want any complications as we are running the 13.1 miles. I purchased my top from Dick’s Sporting Goods, my compression shorts and calf sleeves are from Amazon, but my skirt is from a shop called Running Couture on Etsy. It’s a beautiful skirt and it arrived quickly, so I will definitely be returning to this shop for future races! Colton’s shirt can be found here, his shorts here, and his headband here. He will also be wearing the Woody vest from the Halloween outfit above. Of course I’ll be posting outfit pictures from race day, so be watching our Instagram this weekend and then check back for my Disneyland Marathon Weekend review soon!

 1. Disneyland

Colton and I visited Disneyland for the first time a couple of years ago and I fell in love. There are many things that are similar between Disneyland and Disney World, and many that are different. While I love the size of Disney World and the abundance of attractions, restaurants, and events, I thoroughly enjoyed the smaller size of Disneyland and the ease of getting from one park to the other.

One thing I cannot stop thinking about is the Matterhorn Macaroons from the Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe. If for some reason they aren’t there, I’ll be more than a little upset. Also, when we visited Disneyland, The Matterhorn was being refurbished, so this trip will be our first opportunity to ride it! Being Disney People, we’ll take any excuse for going to a Disney park and a runDisney event is no exception.

That’s a quick list of the Top 4 things I’m excited about for Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend. I will be posting a Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend Review, so make sure to follow us on Twitter @_DisneyPeople, Facebook, and Instagram @_TheDisneyPeople!
