The Swan and Dolphin resorts are the non-Disney Disney resort hotels located in the Boardwalk area near Epcot. While not technically a Disney resort, these resorts do offer many of the same benefits of Disney resorts including Disney transportation and extra magic hours. This post will show you how to get two or more free nights at the Swan or Dolphin using the Starwood Preferred Guest Card from American Express.
Disclaimer: Credit cards are obviously not a toy. Credit cards and credit card rewards are extremely useful for savvy Disney People, but leaving a balance on a card negates any benefit from the rewards. There are many useful blogs such as The Points Guy that more thoroughly cover credit and credit card rewards.
The Swan and Dolphin are one of our favorite resorts in the Disney World area. Their location is hard to beat as the resorts are a quick walk to Epcot’s International Gateway in the Boardwalk area or the Hollywood Studios park. For a more detailed look at the resort and our thoughts, see our Swan and Dolphin Review.
The Starwood Preferred Guest Card from American Express(referral link) currently offers 25,000 SPG rewards points after meeting the minimum spend of $3,000 in the first 3 months. By spending the minimum on your normal expenses, such as gas and electricity, and gaining the bonus from the card, you will have at least 28,000 Starwood Guest Points. A one night stay at the Swan or Dolphin runs from 10-12,000 SPG points. With an extra $2,000 of normal spending, you can easily gather enough points for 3 free nights at the Swan or Dolphin resort.
In addition to the bonus points, the Starwood Preferred card offers other benefits including: No foreign transaction fees, AmEx Offers in various categories, complimentary wi-fi. In addition to that, if you accrue enough points for five free nights, SPG will give you the fifth night. So for 40,000 SPG points, you can book a 5 night stay at one of these great resorts.
We’ve used this benefit for both Brittany and myself to stay at Swan and Dolphin, each time staying for 3 nights (we’ll be there in February for Brittany’s Princess Glass Slipper Challenge!).
One caveat of the Swan and Dolphin is their silly $25/night resort fee, so keep this resort fee in mind when considering this method or any stay at the Swan or Dolphin.
You can find the application link HERE if you’re interested. We love the SPG card and use it for our everyday spending. It’s tough to get more fun from a credit card reward than a free night at Disney World. 🙂
We hope you’ve enjoyed this potential tip to save some money or get an extra few nights at Disney World. Again, credit cards are no joke so please keep that in mind if you consider this. Never, NEVER EVER, leave a balance on a credit card. Pay the FULL balance each month for credit card rewards.
